Haken Senior DevOps - SRE Lead - AWS & GCP | Tokyo

Join a leading international Fintech company in Tokyo as a Senior DevOps / Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Lead, supporting high-performance cloud infrastructure behind real-time trading and payment platforms across the Asia-Pacific region.

In this contract opportunity, you will help maintain, automate and scale enterprise production environments across Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Your focus will be on improving infrastructure reliability, streamlining software delivery and ensuring the resilience of business-critical financial technology systems.

You will work extensively with Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, GitHub Actions and Jenkins, contributing to cloud infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipeline development and operational improvements.

Working alongside engineering professionals across Europe, North America and Asia, you will collaborate with software development and infrastructure teams to strengthen incident response processes and deliver reliable cloud-native services.

This role is ideal for an experienced DevOps Engineer, SRE Engineer or Cloud Infrastructure Engineer seeking a high-paying contract position in Tokyo with exposure to modern multi-cloud architecture and international engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain, optimise and scale AWS and GCP cloud infrastructure supporting business-critical Fintech applications.
• Use Terraform and Ansible to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management and operational tasks.
• Design, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Jenkins to support efficient software delivery.
• Manage and support Kubernetes-based container orchestration across cloud-native production environments.
• Improve system reliability, availability and resilience for real-time trading and payment platforms.
• Develop and refine incident response procedures, escalation processes and operational runbooks to support effective service recovery.
• Collaborate with software developers and infrastructure engineers to identify and resolve deployment, infrastructure and reliability issues.
• Use Python or Go scripting to automate repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Support continuous improvements to cloud infrastructure, deployment workflows and production system stability.
• Coordinate with globally distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones to maintain effective communication during operational incidents and technical initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

• 5+ years of professional experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps or Cloud Infrastructure Engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience managing AWS and/or GCP cloud infrastructure in production environments.
• Practical experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration and application infrastructure management.
• Hands-on expertise with Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC) and cloud infrastructure automation.
• Experience using Ansible for configuration management and operational automation.
• Experience developing or maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
• Strong scripting skills in Python or Go for infrastructure automation and operational tooling.
• Previous experience working with high-availability systems or financial services technology environments.

Soft Skills:

• Strong incident management and escalation skills, with the ability to communicate calmly and effectively during high-pressure production outages.
• Proactive ownership mindset and commitment to continuous improvement in system reliability.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities when addressing complex cloud infrastructure issues.

Language Requirements:

• Japanese: Conversational level for communication with local colleagues and stakeholders.
• English: Fluent level for technical discussions and collaboration with international engineering teams.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Experience supporting real-time trading platforms, payment systems or other mission-critical Fintech applications.
• Exposure to multi-cloud environments combining AWS and GCP.
• Experience improving reliability and operational processes in high-availability production systems.
• Familiarity with cloud-native architecture and modern infrastructure automation practices.
• Experience working with engineering teams distributed across Europe, North America and Asia.
• Previous experience in a senior DevOps, SRE or technical leadership capacity.
