Haken Linux Systems Engineer - VMware & Nutanix | Tokyo

Join one of Japan's leading telecommunications providers in Tokyo as a Linux Systems Engineer / Infrastructure Engineer, supporting a large-scale enterprise virtualisation environment built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), VMware and Nutanix.

In this contract position, you will manage and maintain a high-density virtualised server infrastructure that supports critical telecommunications operations and services used by millions of customers across Japan.

You will be responsible for Linux server administration, VMware vSphere and Nutanix HCI operations, infrastructure automation, patch management, operating system upgrades and enterprise storage allocation.

Working within a structured infrastructure operations team, you will help maintain reliable system performance and availability while improving operational efficiency through Bash and Python scripting.

The role offers exposure to enterprise infrastructure operating at exceptional scale, including environments supporting thousands of virtual machines and server nodes.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and CentOS servers within a large-scale telecommunications infrastructure environment.
• Manage VMware vSphere virtualisation platforms, including VMware ESXi, vCenter and vSAN, to support stable enterprise server operations.
• Operate and maintain Nutanix Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) platforms within the organisation's virtualised server environment.
• Monitor virtual machine performance, resource utilisation and infrastructure capacity to maintain system availability.
• Develop and maintain Bash and Python automation scripts to streamline repetitive system administration and operational tasks.
• Plan and execute Linux patch management, operating system upgrades and scheduled maintenance activities.
• Manage enterprise storage allocation and configuration, including SAN and NAS storage environments.
• Troubleshoot Linux server, virtualisation and storage-related issues, coordinating resolution with relevant infrastructure teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional departments during scheduled maintenance windows, ensuring clear communication and controlled implementation.
• Maintain accurate operational documentation, system configuration records and maintenance procedures to support consistent infrastructure management.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

• 4+ years of professional experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in enterprise or production IT environments.
• Strong hands-on experience managing VMware virtualisation infrastructure, including ESXi, vCenter and vSAN.
• Practical experience supporting Linux server operations, system maintenance and infrastructure troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with Nutanix HCI or comparable enterprise virtualisation platforms.
• Experience performing Linux patch management, operating system upgrades and production maintenance activities.
• Working knowledge of Bash and Python scripting for system administration and task automation.
• Understanding of enterprise storage technologies, including SAN and NAS, and storage allocation processes.
• Ability to work effectively within structured systems operations teams supporting business-critical infrastructure.

• RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) or VCP (VMware Certified Professional) certification.
• Experience administering Nutanix HCI platforms in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Exposure to infrastructure supporting thousands of virtual machines or high-density virtualised server clusters.
• Advanced experience developing Bash or Python scripts to automate Linux administration and maintenance tasks.
• Familiarity with VMware vSAN, SAN/NAS storage management and virtual infrastructure capacity planning.
• Previous infrastructure operations experience within the telecommunications industry or other large-scale, high-availability environments.
