Join a global financial services leader in Tokyo as a Financial Crime Compliance & Risk Advisory professional, providing second-line financial crime advisory, regulatory oversight, and risk governance across Corporate & Institutional Banking, Asset Management, and Securities.
This is a high-visibility second-line risk position covering key areas of AML/CFT, sanctions, fraud, Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC), transaction monitoring, screening, and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD). You will help ensure that financial crime controls remain effective while supporting the implementation of global and regional risk frameworks within Japan.
Working closely with APAC policy leads, functional stakeholders, country risk teams, and local business functions, you will monitor regulatory developments, support regulatory examinations, analyse risk metrics, and advise on improvements to the financial crime control environment.
For an experienced Financial Crime Compliance (FCC), AML, or financial crime operations professional, this position offers broad exposure across multiple financial services businesses and the opportunity to develop toward broader senior leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a second-line Financial Crime Compliance risk owner, providing advice and oversight across Corporate & Institutional Banking, Asset Management, and Securities.
- Advise business and control functions on financial crime risks, regulatory expectations, policies, and appropriate control measures.
- Review, monitor, and perform quality assurance on offshored financial crime activities, including transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD).
- Implement and support financial crime risk appetite policies covering AML/CFT, sanctions, fraud, and Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC).
- Monitor changes to Japanese financial crime regulations and assess their potential impact on local policies, controls, and business activities.
- Support regulatory examinations and assist with communication with Japanese regulatory authorities.
- Conduct compliance monitoring reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of first-line financial crime controls.
- Analyse financial crime risk metrics, monitoring results, and control information to identify emerging risks or areas requiring improvement.
- Recommend practical process and control enhancements to strengthen the effectiveness of the financial crime framework.
- Partner with APAC policy leads, functional stakeholders, and country risk functions to coordinate governance frameworks.
- Support alignment between Japan requirements and broader regional or global Financial Crime Compliance policies.
- Maintain effective communication with local and regional stakeholders across multiple business lines.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) or financial crime operations within financial services.
- Strong practical knowledge of core financial crime areas, including AML, sanctions, and Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC).
- Experience working with financial crime controls, regulatory requirements, monitoring, or risk management processes.
- Understanding of transaction monitoring, screening, Enhanced Due Diligence, or related financial crime processes.
- Ability to operate within a second-line compliance or risk environment and evaluate the effectiveness of first-line controls.
- Experience working with financial services stakeholders in a regulated environment.
- More than 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Bachelor's degree.

- Broader exposure to financial crime areas such as fraud, transaction monitoring, EDD, or regulatory examinations.
- Experience working within an international or APAC financial institution.
- Exposure to regional Financial Crime Compliance policies, governance, or risk appetite frameworks.
