About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior International Tax Manager to join our client's Tax function, reporting directly to the Head of Tax.
This is a broad and commercially focused role, providing strategic and hands-on tax advice across the Bank's Global Markets, Commodities and Investment Banking businesses. You will act as a key business partner, advising on transactions, new products and business initiatives while ensuring the Bank maintains a robust approach to tax risk, compliance and governance.
The role also has a strong international element, covering areas including transfer pricing, international tax transparency, FATCA, CRS, BEPS and evolving OECD, EU and UK tax requirements.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders across the business and control functions, including Front Office, Finance, Treasury, Legal, Compliance, Operations, HR and external advisers. This is an opportunity for a commercially minded tax professional to have significant influence across a complex international banking environment.
Key Responsibilities
Front Office Tax Advisory
- Provide high-quality, commercially focused tax advice to the Global Markets, Commodities and Investment Banking businesses.
- Review and approve new products, transactions and business initiatives, identifying tax implications and recommending appropriate approaches to manage tax risk.
- Assess and mitigate direct tax compliance, financial and reputational risks associated with new and existing activities.
- Partner effectively with Front Office and control functions including Legal, Compliance, Operations, HR and Finance to provide practical, value-adding tax advice.
- Provide tax input into legal documentation, including ISDAs, GMSLAs and loan agreements, where required.
- Work with international external tax advisers, critically evaluating and implementing their advice in line with the Bank's tax risk appetite and policies.
- Maintain and enhance relevant tax policies, procedures and controls.
Transfer Pricing
- Support the development, review and implementation of transfer pricing policies and documentation across the Bank and Group, with particular focus on Global Markets, Commodities and Investment Banking.
- Partner with Finance, Treasury and Front Office teams to ensure effective understanding and implementation of transfer pricing policies.
- Provide specialist transfer pricing advice as part of the Bank's New Product Process.
- Work with external auditors and tax authorities, including HMRC, providing assurance on the adequacy of the Bank's transfer pricing framework, implementation and documentation.
- Coordinate and manage transfer pricing audit requests from UK and international tax authorities.
International Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Support the Bank's international tax transparency and compliance agenda, including developments arising from OECD, EU and UK BEPS and anti-avoidance initiatives.
- Monitor and advise on emerging tax legislation and regulatory requirements, ensuring the Bank remains compliant and appropriately prepared.
- Provide tax input into areas including Pillar Two, Mandatory Disclosure Rules (MDR), Prevention of Fraud and International Controlled Transactions Schedule (ICTS) requirements.
- Work with the Head of Tax and wider Tax team to identify, assess and manage emerging tax risks.
FATCA, CRS & Client Tax Reporting
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely FATCA and CRS returns to HMRC, together with relevant interest reporting such as BBSI returns.
- Work closely with CMU, Operations, IT and Compliance to ensure reporting obligations are met accurately and within required deadlines across relevant jurisdictions.
- Provide specialist tax guidance to teams involved in client onboarding and KYC, particularly in relation to FATCA and CRS classification.
- Ensure appropriate processes and controls are maintained to support the Bank's international tax reporting obligations.
Strategic & Special Projects
- Partner with the Head of Tax and senior colleagues on significant Group-wide projects and initiatives.
- Provide tax expertise on one-off transactions, structural and legal entity reorganisations, mergers and acquisitions, new legislation and regulatory change.
- Develop and maintain appropriate tax procedures and governance frameworks.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen tax risk management, controls and processes across the Group.
What We're Looking For
Experience & Qualifications
- Significant experience in an in-house tax advisory role, ideally within an investment bank, financial institution or similarly complex international organisation.
- Proven experience advising Investment Banking and/or Commodities businesses is essential.
- Strong knowledge of front-office tax advisory and transaction-related tax matters.
- Experience with transfer pricing and international tax matters.
- Familiarity with emerging markets would be advantageous.
- Degree educated or equivalent.
- Qualified ACA, CTA or equivalent accounting/tax qualification.
- Strong understanding of tax risk and control frameworks.
