Job Description: Senior Construction Lead (MEP)
This role is a critical leadership position specifically focused on the Mechanical, Electrical, and Process (MEP) systems. In a pharmaceutical setting, MEP is the "heart and lungs" of the building; you will be responsible for ensuring these complex systems are installed to the highest safety and quality standards.
Role Overview
- Location: Athlone, Ireland
- Focus: Mechanical, Electrical, Piping, HVAC, and Process Systems
- Reporting to: Project Director / Construction Manager
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Oversight & Quality
- System Integrity: Supervise the installation of complex MEP systems, including cleanroom HVAC, purified water (PW), water for injection (WFI), and process gases.
- Design Review: Interface with the EPCM firm to ensure MEP designs are buildable and meet Global Novo Nordisk Quality (QMS) and GxP standards.
- P&ID Verification: Lead the field verification of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to ensure "as-built" accuracy before the commissioning phase.
2. Construction Management & Schedule
- Subcontractor Coordination: Manage specialised MEP subcontractors to ensure they hit key milestones without interfering with civil or structural work.
- Progress Tracking: Utilise Lean Construction tools (such as Last Planner System) to monitor MEP productivity and identify potential bottlenecks early.
- Commissioning Readiness: Ensure a smooth transition from "Mechanical Completion" to "Commissioning & Qualification" (C&Q).
3. Safety & Compliance
- EHS Leadership: Drive a zero-injury culture on-site, specifically managing risks related to high-voltage work, pressure testing, and hot work.
- Regulatory Alignment: Ensure all installations comply with Irish Building Regulations and international pharmaceutical standards (ISPE).

Candidate Profile
- Background: 12+ years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years specifically in Biotech/Pharma.
- Education: Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Chartered status preferred).
- Expertise: Deep knowledge of cleanroom classifications (ISO) and Black/Clean utility systems.
- Attributes: A "boots-on-the-ground" leader who can navigate a high-pressure site environment while maintaining strict attention to detail.
