We are currently recruiting for an experienced Automation Engineer to join a growing engineering team within a highly regulated medical device manufacturing environment in Waterford.
This is a hands-on opportunity working across automated manufacturing equipment, robotics and machine control, with responsibility for taking automation projects from initial concept through to validation and production handover.
You will be involved in the design, development, implementation and optimisation of automated manufacturing solutions, helping to improve safety, quality, capacity and overall production efficiency.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Programming, troubleshooting and optimising PLC-controlled equipment
* Designing and integrating robotic automation systems, including Universal Robots
* Supporting the implementation of Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) for material handling and logistics
* Leading automation projects from concept and design through build, testing, validation and production handover
* Developing machine control architectures, electrical schematics and functional specifications
* Supporting IQ, OQ and PQ activities
* Troubleshooting production equipment and implementing corrective actions to minimise downtime
* Working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Validation and Production teams on continuous improvement initiatives
* Ensuring automation systems meet machine safety and risk management requirements
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial automation and manufacturing, with hands-on experience developing and implementing automated production equipment.
You will ideally have:
* A Bachelor's degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
* At least 5 years' experience in automation engineering within a manufacturing environment
* Experience within medical devices, pharmaceuticals, life sciences or another regulated industry
* Strong PLC programming experience, ideally with Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff or equivalent
* Hands-on experience with Universal Robots programming and integration
* Experience with MiR Mobile Industrial Robots
* Experience designing and building automated manufacturing cells
* Knowledge of industrial vision systems, sensors, servo systems, pneumatics and motion control
* A strong understanding of machine safety standards and risk assessment
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
* IQ/OQ/PQ validation
* MES integrations
* GMP and FDA-regulated manufacturing environments
* Project management and delivery of automation projects
