Job Description

An Environmental Specialist is required to join a renowned Cork based FMCG organisation. The ideal candidate will have experience within a FMCG setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and interpret environmental regulations, permits, and standards applicable to the manufacturing industry. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws, such as air quality, water quality, waste management, hazardous materials, and emissions control.

  • Conduct environmental assessments and audits to identify potential environmental risks and develop strategies for mitigation. This may involve evaluating air emissions, water usage, waste generation, and other environmental aspects of the manufacturing operations.

  • Manage environmental permits, licenses, and reporting requirements. Prepare and submit regulatory reports, such as air emissions reports, wastewater discharge permits, hazardous waste manifests, and other environmental compliance documents.

  • Develop and implement programs to minimize pollution, reduce waste generation, and promote recycling and resource conservation. Identify opportunities for waste minimization, treatment, and disposal in accordance with environmental regulations.

  • Implement and maintain an environmental management system to track and improve environmental performance. This may involve developing procedures, conducting training, and performing internal audits to ensure compliance with environmental policies and objectives.

  • Develop and implement spill prevention and response plans to address potential chemical spills or releases. Coordinate spill response activities, train employees on proper spill response procedures, and ensure appropriate containment, cleanup, and reporting in the event of an incident.

  • Promote sustainability practices within the manufacturing facility. Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption, implement renewable energy sources, and improve overall environmental performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive sustainability initiatives and track progress towards sustainability goals.

  • Conduct environmental training programs for employees to increase awareness and understanding of environmental policies, procedures, and regulations. Communicate environmental performance and initiatives to internal stakeholders, customers, and regulatory agencies as required.

  • Identify and assess potential environmental risks associated with manufacturing operations. Develop and implement risk management strategies to prevent or mitigate environmental incidents and ensure the safety of employees, the community, and the environment.

  • Work with internal departments, external consultants, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders to address environmental concerns, resolve compliance issues, and maintain positive relationships. Participate in environmental industry forums and stay updated on emerging environmental trends and best practices.

Requirements:

  • A bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Science or Engineering.
  • A minimum of 4 years experience in an Environmental role within a manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with EPA licensing and experience dealing with regularity authorities.
