Specialist, Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy

THE ROLE:
The Specialist in this department will be responsible for researching and coordinating sales, cataloguing, developing new clients, and maintaining existing relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prospecting: Demonstrate expertise in acquiring new consignments while effectively cultivating and expanding the client base.
- Market Research: Analyze market trends to provide accurate appraisals and valuable business advice, generating long-term opportunities and re-engaging inactive clients.
- Property Research: Investigate property authenticity, bibliography, provenance, and exhibition history to support valuation and pricing.
- Marketing Contributions: Assist in targeted marketing efforts to attract potential buyers, promote upcoming auctions, and produce information for art-related press and marketing activities.
- Negotiation: Negotiate consignment agreements with sellers and provide exceptional customer service by promptly addressing client inquiries and conducting post-auction follow-ups.
- Auction Participation: Engage in telephone bidding with clients during auctions and participate in various business-related functions.
- Exhibition Coordination: Oversee the setup of exhibitions.
- Sales Catalogues: Produce sales catalogues, ensuring research and cataloguing meet the highest standards, and collaborate with the production team on layout and production.
- Condition Reports: Prepare and write thorough condition reports.
- Compliance: Operate consistently in line with corporate governance and compliance policies, practices, and procedures.
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the art or auction field.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin is required.
- Art Market Knowledge: Strong understanding of the art market and current trends.
- Appraisal Expertise: Demonstrated ability in property appraisal and generating business opportunities.
- Enthusiasm for Art: A keen interest in learning about Classical Chinese paintings and calligraphy.
- Research Skills: First-class research abilities.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills with a commitment to outstanding client service.
