Your Role:

The Group Tax Manager will work to make a substantial contribution to the Group Tax team. This will be achieved by seeking best practice in the areas of tax compliance and advisory services. Responsibilities will include preparing and/or reviewing tax returns, preparing/reviewing tax workings for monthly/annual/regulatory reporting, providing technical tax advice to business units/on specific projects, and interacting with other stakeholders on tax related issues.

Your Team:

You will be a member of a small but focused Group Tax Team who have involvement in many areas of the business and whose responsibilities cover all tax heads including Corporation Tax, VAT, Capital Gains Tax ("CGT"), Stamp Duty, DIRT, PAYE and information reporting. The team, at all times, aims to work in an open and collaborative environment in which your ideas and input will be valued.

Your Responsibilities:

As the Group Tax Manager you will directly support the Group Tax Senior Manager in relation to the management of all tax matters occurring within the bank including:

  • Preparation and review of key tax returns to include direct, indirect, and operational tax returns.
  • Calculation and review of tax provisions for inclusion in financial statements and monthly management reports.
  • Calculation and review of tax figures for inclusion in quarterly regulatory workings.
  • Provisions of support and technical tax advice to business units in the Group.
  • Consultation on ad hoc projects across all tax heads.
  • Assist in providing input into tax aspects of significant investment transactions.
  • Promote the application of Group-wide tax-related policies and procedures and assist in developing and implementing any new requirements.
  • Keep up to date with current tax, legal, and regulatory requirements.

Secondary responsibilities:

In addition to the above primary responsibilities, as the Group Tax Manager, you will also provide the following additional support to the Group Tax team:

  • Management and development of the Group Tax specialist and Group Tax trainee.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with business units.
  • Support the Group Tax team to ensure all internal and external deadlines are met and all tax issues are dealt with in a timely, efficient, and appropriate manner.
  • Work with the wider Group Tax team in identifying opportunities for improvements in quality, efficiencies, and timeliness and ensure execution of deliverables.

Due to the changing nature of work, we encourage flexibility and a willingness to tackle new activities as required.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) and/or AITI qualified.
  • Relevant experience working in a tax environment in practice/industry.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the capacity to articulate complicated information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel and Word.

Desired

  • Experience across a number of tax heads.
  • Understanding of, and experience in, the banking sector
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work on own initiative and to manage and prioritise large volumes of work and deal with challenging deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with management and peers to deliver results and meet key deadline requirements.
