My client, a leading engineering company based in Portsmouth, are looking for a cost accountant on a permanent basis. The role will be remote based with travel to their head office in Portsmouth required once a week or once every two weeks or so.

Cost Accountant

As a Cost Accountant, you will be primarily responsible for the calculation of rates and submission to MoD of all information relating to compliance with MoD reporting requirements. The role also includes a range of other activities in support of financial reporting & internal financial compliance.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work with MoD finance teams as well a broad range of internal stakeholders in contributing to the achievement of Maritime Services financial objectives. You will gain an in-depth knowledge MoD financial processes and procedures which will be of benefit across a wide range of activities in the Company.

Your main responsibilities as a Cost Accountant will involve:

  • Calculating the actual and estimated MoD rates and ensuring they are appropriately communicated
  • Supporting MoD audit team in their cost investigations
  • Being the initial point of contact for matters relating to rates within Maritime Services.
  • Ensuring that MoD supplier reports and the Questionnaire on the Methodology of Cost Allocation are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Co-ordinating the Capital Expenditure reporting across Maritime Services, ensuring that assets are appropriately recorded and requirements of IFRS 16 are complied with.
  • Co-ordinating the process for maintenance of Delegation of Authority levels within Maritime Services
  • Conducting the annual existence test for business critical spreadsheets
  • Administering the shared workspace area for the finance team.
  • Updating processes and policies as required for all aspects of the role.

Your skills and qualifications:

Qualified or Part Qualified accountant - ACA, ACCA or CIMA

Understanding of Finance Governance requirements

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Management accounting experience

Business Systems experience (SAP)
