Environmental Health & Safety Manager
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Environmental Health & Safety Manager to join a leading food manufacturing operation in Wexford.
This is a senior leadership role within a large-scale, highly automated production facility, offering the chance to influence site strategy, drive a positive safety culture, and lead environmental, health, safety and risk management initiatives across the business.
Reporting directly to the Site Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving EH&S systems while ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site Environmental, Health & Safety programmes.
Drive and promote a strong safety culture across all departments.
Develop and implement site risk management strategies and business continuity plans.
Support production and maintenance teams in achieving EH&S objectives while maintaining operational performance.
Manage site-wide risk assessments, business impact assessments, and mitigation strategies.
Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and local authorities.
Ensure full compliance with environmental permits, licences, and legislative requirements.
Manage site emissions, effluent treatment processes, and environmental reporting activities.
Lead and maintain management systems and certifications including ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001 and related standards.
Manage fire safety programmes, emergency preparedness planning, and liaison with emergency services.
Lead incident investigations, ensuring robust root cause analysis, corrective actions, and lessons learned are effectively implemented.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety performance, environmental sustainability, and operational excellence.
Manage waste disposal, recycling programmes, and environmental improvement projects.
Establish and monitor environmental objectives and targets aligned with regulatory requirements.
Oversee environmental reporting including Annual Environmental Reports and associated compliance submissions.
Monitor site energy performance and support energy reduction initiatives.
Ensure compliance with Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) licence requirements.
Promote company values and contribute positively to site culture and employee engagement initiatives.
Delivery of strong safety performance metrics including TRIR and LTIR improvements.
Achievement of high audit and compliance scores with timely closure of actions.
Delivery of environmental KPIs relating to waste reduction, emissions, water consumption and energy efficiency.
Successful execution of sustainability and continuous improvement programmes.
Training completion and competency development across the site.
Increased participation and engagement in Behaviour-Based Safety initiatives.
Full regulatory compliance with no enforcement actions or penalties.
Effective management of departmental budgets and expenditure.
Degree qualification in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 5 years' experience in an Environmental, Health & Safety leadership role within food manufacturing, dairy, pharmaceutical, chemical, or other regulated industrial environments.
Professional Health & Safety qualifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP or equivalent are highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, health and safety regulations, risk management, and compliance requirements.
Proven experience implementing EH&S management systems and driving safety culture transformation.
Experience leading audits, inspections, regulatory interactions, and environmental compliance programmes.
Strong understanding of incident investigation methodologies, risk assessments, and safety engineering principles.
Demonstrated continuous improvement experience within a manufacturing environment.
Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while building strong collaborative relationships across the organisation.
