Introduction to Role:
The Junior Automation Engineer (IT/OT) supports the planning and delivery of projects that span enterprise IT systems and Operational Technology (OT) environments, including industrial control systems and plant networks. This role is focused on supporting Work Package Ownership activities under the guidance of experienced engineers or project leads. The role collaborates with cross-functional teams to help deliver safe, compliant, and reliable outcomes while developing practical experience in cybersecurity, quality, cost, schedule, and project delivery.
KEY AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITY: (list of key objectives and quantifying standards)
- Support Work Package Ownership activities for defined IT/OT project deliverables from initiation through handover, including tracking scope, schedule, actions, documentation, and status updates.
- Assist with coordination across engineering, operations, maintenance, IT security and infrastructure, vendors, and system integrators to support aligned delivery plans.
- Support requirements gathering and solution design activities for OT systems such as PLC/SCADA/DCS, historian, MES, OT networking, and related IT integrations.
- Help ensure safety and compliance requirements are considered during delivery, including change control, permit-to-work, site access, and operational readiness inputs.
- Assist with vendor and procurement activities, including preparing inputs for statements of work, acceptance criteria, delivery milestones, and change control records.
- Support testing and commissioning activities such as FAT/SAT, user acceptance testing, documentation generation and review, training preparation, and handover to support teams.
- Participate in governance routines and contribute to continuous improvement by capturing actions, risks, issues, lessons learned, and project documentation updates.
Required qualifications:
- Graduate qualification in Automation, Electrical, Electronic, Computer, IT, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Entry-level to 1-2 years' experience in IT and/or OT environments, ideally with exposure to manufacturing, automation, control systems, or plant networks.
- Basic understanding of project delivery methodologies, documentation control, governance, reporting, and change management.
- Awareness of Pharma lifecycle processes, FDA regulated environments, GAMP, commissioning, cutover, and operational readiness is desirable.
- Good documentation, facilitation, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Must be detail oriented, willing to learn, and self-motivating.
Preferred qualifications:
- Hardware/Software: Exposure to PLC and SCADA systems such as Siemens or Schneider, Computerised Equipment, Ignition, ThinManager, Aveva PI, and similar Manufacturing Solution Applications. Exposure to MES solutions such as PAS-X is an advantage.
- Basic awareness of Active Directory application design and implementation.
- Awareness of ITIL processes relating to Project and Service Delivery, including ServiceNow.
- Graduate to 1-2 years' experience.
