    About the job

    Join a leading global financial institution in New York as a Senior Banker within the Japan Desk, managing and expanding relationships with Japanese corporate clients operating across the United States and the wider Americas.

    This senior Corporate Banking and Relationship Management position will act as a key bridge between Japanese corporate clients, their headquarters in Japan, and the bank's global product and coverage teams. You will originate, structure, and execute cross-border financing solutions while developing long-term relationships with senior decision-makers.

    The role provides broad exposure to corporate lending, cash management, trade finance, foreign exchange, debt capital markets, structured finance, and derivatives. It is particularly suited to an experienced bilingual banker with established knowledge of Japanese corporate clients and a strong track record in cross-border corporate banking.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage and develop a portfolio of Japanese corporate clients across the Americas, building trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders.
    • Originate, structure, and execute corporate lending, capital markets, and other financing transactions.
    • Deliver integrated banking solutions across cash management, trade finance, FX, corporate lending, debt capital markets, structured finance, and derivatives.
    • Identify new business opportunities based on each client's strategic, operational, and financial requirements.
    • Develop cross-border opportunities by understanding the needs of Japanese companies operating throughout the United States and Americas.
    • Coordinate with product specialists, Credit, Risk, and regional coverage teams to deliver comprehensive cross-border banking solutions.
    • Manage portfolio credit risk and lead internal credit discussions in partnership with senior credit officers.
    • Support credit analysis and internal approval processes for corporate financing transactions.
    • Drive client planning, relationship development, and revenue growth across the assigned portfolio.
    • Maintain regular dialogue with senior client stakeholders and corporate headquarters in Japan, ensuring effective coordination between Japan and the Americas.
    • Work across the bank's international network to connect Japanese corporate clients with relevant financing, markets, and transaction banking capabilities.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    Experience:
    • Approximately 10-15 years of relevant experience in corporate banking, investment banking, or corporate relationship management.
    • Established experience covering Japanese corporate clients in the United States or another major international financial market.
    • Proven track record of originating, structuring, and executing corporate financings and other banking transactions.
    • Strong knowledge of corporate lending, credit analysis, and internal credit approval processes.
    • Broad experience across banking products such as cash management, trade finance, foreign exchange, capital markets, structured finance, or derivatives.
    • Experience managing senior corporate relationships and identifying new revenue opportunities.
    • Ability to manage portfolio credit risk and participate effectively in senior-level internal credit discussions.
    • Candidates must be U.S. citizens, Green Card holders, or possess other valid and unrestricted U.S. employment authorisation permitting them to work in New York.
    Soft Skills:
    • Strong relationship management capabilities and the confidence to engage effectively with senior Japanese corporate clients.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills across Japanese and international business environments.
    • Strong commercial judgement with the ability to identify and convert complex cross-border business opportunities.
    • Ability to operate independently while coordinating effectively with product, coverage, Credit, and Risk teams.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills across different functions, regions, and seniority levels.
    • Ability to navigate a global banking organisation and bring together multiple product capabilities around client requirements.
    Language Requirements:
    • Japanese: Native level
    • English: Fluent

    Preferred Skills & Qualifications

    • Established relationships with Japanese corporate clients operating in the United States or across the Americas.
    • Previous experience covering Japanese companies from an overseas Japan Desk.
    • Experience working in New York or another major international financial centre.
    • Strong knowledge of the financing and transaction banking requirements of Japanese multinational companies.
    • Experience coordinating cross-border banking opportunities between Japan and overseas markets.
