Haken Oracle DBA Tokyo - Database & Cloud

Join a leading multinational technology company as an Oracle Database Administrator (Oracle DBA), supporting mission-critical database infrastructure and global digital operations from Tokyo.

In this role, you will manage, optimise, and maintain highly available Oracle 19c/21c database environments, ensuring performance, security, resilience, and business continuity. You will work with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, SQL/PLSQL, Linux/Unix, and automation technologies across complex enterprise infrastructure.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Oracle DBA in Japan looking to deepen their expertise in enterprise database administration, hybrid cloud infrastructure, database automation, and high-availability systems within a global technology environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain multi-node Oracle 19c/21c database environments, including Oracle RAC.
• Monitor database performance, conduct SQL tuning, analyse execution plans, and optimise resource utilisation across complex enterprise environments.
• Implement, maintain, and test disaster recovery and business continuity solutions using Oracle Data Guard and RMAN backup and recovery strategies.
• Maintain robust database security standards, including access controls, compliance audits, encryption policies, and data protection requirements.
• Automate routine database administration, health checks, and maintenance workflows using shell scripting, Ansible, and related automation technologies.
• Collaborate with infrastructure engineering, application development, and other cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve Tier 3 database incidents.
• Diagnose database performance and availability issues, perform root-cause analysis, and support recovery during high-priority incidents.
• Help maintain reliable, secure, and highly available database infrastructure supporting global business operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

• 3+ years of relevant experience, including extensive hands-on administration of mission-critical Oracle 19c/21c databases.
• Strong technical expertise in Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters), Oracle Data Guard, and RMAN.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL performance tuning, execution plan analysis, database profiling, and performance optimisation.
• Solid experience working with Linux/Unix operating systems, shell scripting, and storage architecture fundamentals.
• Experience supporting enterprise-grade database environments where availability, security, performance, and disaster recovery are business-critical.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant educational background.

Soft Skills:

• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause diagnostic capabilities.
• Clear communication skills with the ability to explain complex database issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within geographically distributed teams working across multiple time zones.
• Strong composure and structured problem-solving skills during high-priority system outages and data recovery situations.
• Proactive and collaborative approach to maintaining reliable enterprise infrastructure.

Language Requirements:

• Japanese: Conversational level.
• English: Intermediate/Business level.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Certified Master (OCM) certification.
• Experience with cloud database migrations and hybrid cloud deployments using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or Microsoft Azure.
• Familiarity with database and infrastructure automation technologies such as Ansible and Terraform.
• Experience integrating database operations with modern CI/CD pipelines and automated infrastructure workflows.
