We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect - Health Domain to provide strategic architectural leadership across a complex, multi-year health transformation program, including the replacement of the organisation's core Electronic Medical Record (EMR) platform.
This is a rare opportunity to influence enterprise-wide technology strategy while playing a pivotal role in a 5-year digital health transformation program that will reshape how technology supports clinical care, research and operational outcomes.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of IT Architecture, you will develop and maintain the enterprise architecture across the health domain, ensuring technology investments, platforms and roadmaps align with the organisation's strategic objectives.
A major focus of the role will be the replacement of the existing EMR, alongside the broader health technology landscape, including Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) capabilities, clinical platforms, integration, data, cloud and digital health architecture.
You will work across both strategic and delivery environments, providing architectural direction while ensuring solutions are practical, scalable and aligned to clinical and organisational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide enterprise-wide architectural leadership across the health domain, guiding technology direction and simplifying a complex technology landscape.
- Define and maintain enterprise architecture vision, principles, standards, target states and strategic roadmaps.
- Play a key architectural role in the EMR replacement program, ensuring the future-state architecture supports clinical, operational, research and patient experience objectives.
- Provide architectural oversight across EMR, EMPI, clinical systems, integration, data, cloud and digital health platforms.
- Provide architecture governance and assurance across major programs, projects, procurements and technology investments.
- Review and endorse solution architectures to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and strategic direction.
- Contribute to architecture governance boards and design authorities, managing exceptions, risks, technical debt and architectural dependencies.
- Partner with internal IT teams and health stakeholders to rationalise, modernise and optimise the technology landscape.
- Ensure architecture decisions appropriately consider security, privacy, compliance, resilience and sustainability.
- Develop strong relationships across the organisation and build alignment between technology and business/clinical priorities.
- Mentor and guide Solution Architects, Domain Architects and technical leaders to uplift architecture capability and consistency.
A Critical Part of the Role - Stakeholder Engagement
This role requires an Enterprise Architect who can operate confidently beyond the IT function.
You will engage extensively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including:
- Doctors and clinicians
- Clinical and healthcare leaders
- Hospital operations
- Back-office and corporate functions
- Research and academic stakeholders
- IT and technology teams
- Senior executives and program leadership
You will need to be comfortable translating complex architectural concepts into language that makes sense to clinical, operational and executive audiences, building consensus across stakeholders with competing priorities and influencing decisions without relying solely on formal authority.
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability is essential to success in this role.
About You
We are looking for a seasoned Enterprise Architect with strong health-sector experience and a demonstrated understanding of the complexity of clinical environments.
You will ideally bring:
- Extensive experience in Enterprise Architecture or senior architecture roles within healthcare.
- Proven experience working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems - essential.
- Experience with EMR transformation, implementation, replacement or major clinical technology programs.
- Understanding of Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) and the broader clinical systems ecosystem.
- A strong understanding of hospital operations, clinical workflows and digital health environments.
- Experience developing enterprise architecture strategies, target-state architectures, capability models and technology roadmaps.
- Broad architectural knowledge across clinical platforms, cloud, data, integration, business architecture and digital experience.
- Strong architecture governance and assurance experience, including solution design reviews, standards and exception management.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence clinicians, doctors, operational stakeholders, executives and technical teams.
- Strong strategic and critical thinking skills, with the ability to balance business value, risk, cost, complexity and delivery feasibility.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
- TOGAF certification or training is highly regarded.
