Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager
A leading pharmaceutical manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and continuously improve its EHS programme across multiple sites. Reporting to the General Manager, this role will drive compliance, risk management, occupational health, sustainability initiatives, and a strong safety culture throughout the business. Candidates applying must have experience from either pharma, med tech or food industry experience, and must have people management experience
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's EHS strategy.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements across all sites.
- Manage and maintain the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Lead risk assessment programmes, identifying hazards and implementing effective control measures.
- Manage, mentor and develop a team of EHS professionals.
- Oversee occupational health services, employee wellbeing initiatives, and health surveillance programmes.
- Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including testing and review of emergency procedures.
- Represent the organisation during regulatory inspections, customer audits, and external stakeholder visits.
- Manage incident and accident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Develop and implement company-wide EHS training and communication programmes.
- Ensure Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) compliance requirements are maintained.
- Oversee contractor safety management and compliance.
- Support sustainability initiatives and ESG reporting activities.
- Prepare and present EHS performance metrics and KPIs to senior leadership.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 8 years' EHS experience, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
- At least 4-5 years' experience in a pharmaceutical, chemical, or GMP-regulated setting.
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing teams.
- Strong knowledge of EHS legislation, compliance frameworks, and risk management principles.
- Experience in chemical safety and manufacturing operations.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management capabilities.
Qualifications
- Degree (Level 8 or equivalent) in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Additional Occupational Health & Safety qualifications are highly desirable.
