About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join an Automation Engineering team in Galway for a 9-month contract.
In this position, you will take ownership of the design, manufacture, and testing of manufacturing equipment used to produce medical devices. This is a hands-on, lead role where you will manage projects from initial concept and quotation through to final software development, electrical safety design, and site handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Software Development: Define automation platforms and write new PLC, HMI, and SCADA code based on User Requirement Specifications (URS).
- Project Ownership: Lead the design of manufacturing equipment from initialization to final handover, managing project schedules and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
- Electrical & Safety Design: Supervise and contribute to electrical and safety designs, ensuring all updates and new builds comply with the European Machinery Directive.
- Documentation & Compliance: Generate technical documentation, concepts, and business cases under established quality SOPs and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Technical Support: Lead and participate in troubleshooting activities to support day-to-day manufacturing operations.
What We Are Looking For
- Education: Engineering Degree (NFQ Level 8 or above).
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in a similar automation role within a regulated manufacturing environment (Medical Device or Pharma preferred).
- Technical Skills:
- PLC Programming for Machine Automation using RSLogix.
- HMI/SCADA Design utilizing Rockwell - FactoryTalk View SE / ME.
- Hands-on experience with PID Design/Tuning and Servo Control.
- Commissioning of Industrial Networks (EtherNet/IP) and instrumentation configuration.
- Knowledge of Machine Electrical & Safety Design as per European Machinery Directive standards.
- Project Management: Proven ability to track schedules, balance multiple projects, and deliver technical writing accurately.
