We are working with a well-established organisation seeking a Senior Systems Administrator with a strong background in virtualisation and Linux infrastructure to join a growing systems team.
This is a hands-on senior role with ownership of critical virtual infrastructure, working closely with other senior engineers and technical teams to ensure platform stability, scalability, and performance.
Take ownership of the design, operation, and optimisation of a large-scale VMware virtualisation platform, with a strong focus on VMware NSX
Maintain and improve Linux-based systems across virtual and physical environments
Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues spanning virtualisation, systems, and networking
Contribute to architectural decisions and continuous improvement initiatives
Support major infrastructure projects and platform upgrades
Participate in documentation, knowledge sharing, and change management processes
Be part of an on-call rota (approx. 1 week every 2 months, with allowance)
Virtualisation: VMware NSX (critical)
OS: Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS)
Networking: Data centre networking, VXLAN, BGP
Infrastructure: On-prem data centres with some cloud exposure
Automation: Ansible, Terraform, Git
Containerisation: Docker / Kubernetes (nice to have)
Monitoring & Logging: Elastic stack and related tools
Strong, hands-on experience with VMware infrastructure, specifically NSX
Solid Linux system administration background
Good understanding of data centre networking concepts
Experience working with firewalls and load balancers
Comfortable working in a collaborative, technical team environment
Containerisation experience (Docker / Kubernetes)
Cloud exposure (AWS or Azure)
Strong VMware experience with slightly lighter Linux background also considered
Hybrid working - minimum 2 days onsite per week
Strong work/life balance with limited out-of-hours work (planned in advance)
Occasional travel to Dublin-based data centres
On-call allowance
