Job Overview
The Principal Cloud Engineer will be the most senior cloud engineer and technical lead for Azure and AWS. This hands-on role combines engineering, leadership, and mentorship to upskill the existing team while introducing structure, governance, and best practices. The role is central to establishing a scalable, secure, and automated multi-cloud environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multi-cloud infrastructure, primarily Azure and AWS
- Define and enforce cloud standards, governance, and best practices
- Drive automation and Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives using Terraform, Bicep, Azure DevOps, or similar tools
- Optimise performance, availability, and cost across cloud environments
- Troubleshoot complex issues and lead root cause analysis
- Mentor and coach engineers to upskill the team in cloud architecture and operations
- Support integration of security and operational tools, ensuring compliance
- Modernise legacy cloud environments and establish structured, repeatable practices
Requirements
- Azure Solutions Architect-level expertise (certifications preferred)
- Strong experience with Azure and AWS
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, Bicep, IaC, DevOps tooling, and CI/CD pipelines
- Solid understanding of cloud operations, governance, and best practices
- Experience modernising legacy cloud environments
- Familiarity with ML workloads and developer terminology is a plus
- Leadership and mentorship experience
- Confident hands-on engineer, able to solve complex problems
- Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field preferred
