VAT Associate Director - Director

A leading UK accountancy and advisory firm is looking to appoint an experienced VAT Associate Director or Director to join its established Indirect Tax team. This is a senior leadership opportunity offering the autonomy to shape client relationships, drive business growth and mentor the next generation of VAT professionals. Working with a diverse portfolio of entrepreneurial businesses, large corporates and international groups, you'll advise on complex VAT matters while playing a pivotal role in the continued expansion of the practice. The Opportunity

As an Associate director or Director of the team, you'll take ownership of a varied portfolio of clients, leading technically challenging advisory assignments and acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders. You'll work closely with Partners to shape the direction of the VAT offering, develop new client relationships and support the continued growth of an ambitious national practice. This is a role that combines technical excellence with commercial leadership, giving you the opportunity to influence strategy while continuing to work on complex and rewarding client engagements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of complex VAT advisory projects across a diverse client portfolio.
• Build trusted relationships with senior decision-makers, becoming their go-to adviser on VAT matters.
• Advise on areas including VAT planning, international transactions, business restructuring, due diligence and complex technical issues.
• Manage interactions with HMRC, including technical enquiries and contentious matters.
• Oversee project delivery, budgets and client communications, ensuring work is delivered efficiently and to the highest standard.
• Coach, mentor and develop junior members of the VAT team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
• Support recruitment, performance management and the wider leadership of the practice.
• Play an active role in winning new work, developing existing client relationships and contributing to strategic growth initiatives.

About You

• CTA and/or ACA qualification (or equivalent).
• Significant experience advising on VAT within a professional services or specialist advisory environment.
• A strong technical background across complex VAT advisory work, including structuring, international VAT, due diligence and risk management.
• Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to provide practical, solutions-focused advice.
• Experience leading teams, managing complex projects and developing client relationships.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging at board and senior leadership level.
• A genuine passion for mentoring others and helping build a successful, growing practice.
