Job Description

As an integral part of the APAC legal team, you will serve as an individual contributor in Japan, reporting directly to the Global Head of Legal and Japan CEO.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Strategic Legal Guidance: Collaborate closely with the Japan management team and relevant departments, offering strategic legal advice to steer operations in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Legal Expertise: Become the go-to expert on Japanese business law, company law, financial law, and related regulations. Continuously update your knowledge and ensure prompt dissemination of legal changes within the team and to stakeholders.
  • Liaison and Legal Opinions: Act as the bridge between the internal legal teams and external legal experts, such as lawyers, legal counsels, counterparties, institutions, and government bodies. Ensure the timely acquisition of legal opinions.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of legal documentation, including contracts, opinion letters, agreements, analyses, email exchanges, policies, and more, ensuring they are up-to-date and easily accessible.
  • Risk Analysis: Analyze data and information to identify potential risks the company should be aware of. Report these risks in a timely manner.
  • Negotiations: Engage in discussions and negotiations with relevant bodies when necessary to support the Japan management team.

Required skills

  • Possess a law license in one or more jurisdictions (Japanese license not mandatory).
  • Deep knowledge of financial services law.
  • Fluent in Japanese and business-level English.

Preferred skills

  • Strong knowledge of listed products, including cash equities and futures & options.
  • Over five years of legal experience in a securities company.
  • Profound knowledge of FSA manuals and regulations.
