A leading capital markets and investment group is seeking a Head of Settlement to oversee all aspects of settlement operations in its Tokyo office. In this senior role, you will lead a small back-office team while managing post-trade processing, exchange clearing, cash positions, and compliance across domestic and offshore markets. Key Responsibilities
- Lead a small operations team and oversee daily equity settlement activities
- Ensure timely and accurate trade processing and post-trade operations
- Manage cash positions, funding requirements, and daily reconciliations
- Monitor exchange clearing activity and work closely with clearing agents
- Oversee settlement of trades with brokers and trust banks in both domestic and offshore markets
- Maintain trade data in I-Star, open accounts, and support regulatory reporting
- Identify and mitigate settlement risks while maintaining compliance with Japan market regulations
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of team leadership experience in Japanese equities settlement
- Deep knowledge of custody settlement practices and cash management in financial institutions
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with systems like I-Star
- Strong knowledge of Japan's settlement infrastructure and regulations
Soft Skills:
- High attention to detail and operational accuracy
- Ability to collaborate across teams and function independently under pressure
- Clear and confident communicator with internal and external stakeholders
Language Requirements
- Japanese: Fluent
- English: Business-level (reading/writing/speaking)
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience handling additional products such as futures, options, and fixed income
- Prior use of I-Star settlement platform highly desirable
- Experience navigating cross-border post-trade processes
