A new role to replace a retiring Head of Compliance at a global bank in Japan, supporting leadership with develop strong governance across the organisation.
Roles/Responsibilities
- This is a standalone position in Japan, so our client requires someone who is comfortable working at the strategic level, but also doing the day-to-day compliance activities.
- Risk Management: Take charge of managing compliance risks, implementing procedures to assess and mitigate non-financial risks, and protecting the organization from unnecessary risks.
- Compliance Culture: Promote and instill a compliance culture within the local organization.
- Business Support: Proactively manage compliance risks by evaluating business initiatives and processes, leveraging regional support, and ensuring timely identification and resolution of significant compliance issues.
- Regulatory Relationships: Build and sustain relationships with local regulatory authorities.
- MLRO Duties: Serve as the local Money Laundering Reporting Officer, monitoring Financial Economic Crime (FEC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) events.
- Regulatory Representation: Represent Compliance in dealings with local regulatory bodies, potentially requiring registration.
- Compliance Review: Plan and conduct local reviews of the Compliance Charter and E2E Framework, reporting findings and best practices to both local and regional management.
- Legal Facilitation: Handle local legal matters, including preparing and submitting applications to the Legal Affairs Bureau, maintaining the Tokyo Branch Corporate Registry, managing the branch proxy list, and overseeing local litigation matter.
Required skills
- Proven leadership in compliance risk management.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and ability to interpret and implement compliance standards.
- Fluent Japanese and business level English.
Preferred skills
- Experience as an MLRO and handling FEC/CDD related events.
