Based in Tokyo, this contract opportunity is ideal for an experienced GCP Data Engineer who wants to work with modern cloud technologies and large-scale data infrastructure. You will design and optimise scalable data pipelines, work with technologies including Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery, Databricks, PySpark and Airflow, and contribute to the data infrastructure powering consumer technologies across Japan.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain scalable GCP data pipelines and robust ETL/ELT workflows for large-scale data processing.
- Develop and optimise distributed data processing jobs using PySpark and Databricks.
- Architect and manage reliable data lakes and data warehousing solutions capable of supporting high-volume datasets.
- Work with cloud-based data technologies to improve the scalability, reliability and performance of data infrastructure.
- Collaborate within an agile, international technology environment alongside experienced AI, data and engineering professionals.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 5+ years of hands-on professional experience in Data Engineering.
- Deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including BigQuery, Cloud Composer, Dataflow, Google Cloud Storage (GCS) and Pub/Sub.
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL and PySpark for large-scale data processing.
- Hands-on experience with the Databricks ecosystem, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog and Workflows.
- Practical experience working with Airflow and ETL/ELT workflows.
- Experience designing or maintaining scalable cloud data pipelines, data lakes and data warehousing solutions.
- Must currently reside in Japan and hold valid work authorisation.
Soft Skills:
- Ability to collaborate effectively within an agile and international engineering environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills when working with complex, large-scale data systems.
- Ability to contribute effectively alongside AI, data and engineering professionals.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Basic level.
- English: Intermediate to Business level.

- Experience working with large-scale or high-volume datasets across multiple industries.
- Exposure to data engineering projects supporting AI, machine learning or advanced analytics.
