Based in Tokyo, this contract opportunity focuses on building, maintaining and enhancing high-availability Python RESTful web services that support critical business applications within a large, data-driven digital ecosystem.

You will take an active role in detailed software design, API development, application scalability and security, ensuring that enterprise services remain reliable, maintainable and capable of supporting demanding operational requirements.

Working with engineering teams across Japan, India and Singapore, you will collaborate with software developers, QA engineers and other technical stakeholders to improve software delivery, troubleshoot complex issues and support efficient development workflows.

The role combines hands-on Python software engineering, Docker containerisation, Kubernetes orchestration, Unix/Linux operations and Bash automation. You will also contribute to technical documentation, deployment procedures and the continuous improvement of existing application architectures.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high-availability Python RESTful web services supporting enterprise applications and business continuity.
• Lead detailed technical design activities for scalable, secure and maintainable API-based solutions.
• Collaborate with software engineering and QA teams across Japan, India and Singapore to coordinate development, testing and software delivery.
• Develop and maintain Python and Bash automation scripts to improve operational efficiency, system performance and repeatability.
• Support Docker-based application containerisation and Kubernetes deployment workflows in production environments.
• Investigate and troubleshoot complex technical issues using systematic debugging, root-cause analysis and problem-solving techniques.
• Review existing application architectures and identify opportunities to improve reliability, scalability, security and maintainability.
• Work within Agile/Scrum development processes, contributing to iterative development, release planning and cross-functional coordination.
• Create and maintain accurate technical documentation covering system configurations, application workflows, operational procedures and deployments.
• Apply relevant API Gateway security concepts and software engineering best practices when developing and maintaining enterprise services.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

• Strong hands-on experience with Python development, particularly building and maintaining RESTful web services and automation solutions.
• Solid practical experience using Docker containerisation and Kubernetes orchestration in production environments.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML and CSS, including their relevance to web applications and API-based systems.
• Experience working with Unix/Linux operating environments, including command-line operations and Bash scripting.
• Understanding of API Gateway security concepts and secure API integration practices.
• Proven experience working within Agile/Scrum software development teams and iterative release cycles.
• Ability to investigate and resolve complex application or system issues through structured debugging and troubleshooting.
• Experience producing or maintaining technical documentation, configuration records and deployment procedures.

Soft Skills:

• Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working with international engineering and QA teams.
• Ability to provide technical direction and contribute to detailed software design decisions.
• Excellent analytical thinking and structured problem-solving skills when addressing complex engineering challenges.

Language Requirements:

• English: Business level, essential for technical discussions and collaboration with international engineering teams.
• Japanese: Basic level, suitable for the role's primarily English-speaking international collaboration environment.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Experience provisioning or managing Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure infrastructure, including CI/CD pipeline automation using Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
• Exposure to Machine Learning model deployment and MLOps concepts in production environments.
• Knowledge of Java development and the Spring Boot framework.
• Understanding of data engineering concepts, including ETL pipelines and processing frameworks such as Apache Spark.
• Familiarity with enterprise monitoring and logging tools, including Prometheus or the ELK Stack.
• Experience improving cloud-native application deployment, operational automation or large-scale distributed service reliability.
