Senior Legal Officer - Infrastructure, Construction & Governance
We are partnered with a Public Sector client who is seeking a Senior Legal Officer with specialized expertise in infrastructure delivery, design, and construction contracting. This is an exciting opportunity to provide high-level legal services that directly impact key projects, governance practices, and compliance across the organisation
Primary Purpose: As a Senior Legal Officer, you will provide strategic legal advice on a wide range of matters related to infrastructure delivery. Your focus will include design and construction contracts, while also addressing governance, compliance, and risk management issues. You will work closely with senior executives, the Board, and external stakeholders to ensure that our legal frameworks are robust and effective.
Key Accountabilities:
- Deliver specialist, high-level legal advice on infrastructure-related transactions, particularly consultant agreements and construction contracts.
- Support the General Counsel, senior executives, and staff by addressing priority legal service needs with a client-focused approach.
- Take conduct and carriage of legal matters, managing stakeholder relationships to drive timely outcomes aligned with our organization's objectives.
- Supervise, manage, and mentor junior lawyers, fostering their professional development.
- Assist in briefing the Board, executive team, and Audit & Risk Committee on key legal issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with the Ministry of Health, other government bodies, and external stakeholders to support project delivery.
- Regularly update our contracting platform precedents to incorporate key learnings and best practices.
- Conduct workshops, training sessions, and briefings, both internally and externally.
- Manage external lawyers and counsel, ensuring consistent communication and alignment with internal legal objectives.
Qualifications:
- A law degree with significant experience in construction, infrastructure, and governance law.
- A proven track record of managing complex legal matters, particularly in the context of infrastructure delivery and construction contracting.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience in mentoring and developing junior legal professionals.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, particularly with high-level stakeholders.
- A proactive, client-focused approach to legal services.
