We are working with a leading professional services client on a new role, it's a chance to take full ownership of an enterprise network and its security, and to lead a small, capable engineering team while you do it.
You will step into a leadership role within a respected Sydney organisation's technology operations group. Your remit covers everything that keeps people connected and protected: the corporate and wide-area network, SD-WAN, wireless, firewalls, remote access and the links into Azure. You set the direction for it, decide what gets built next, and make sure it keeps running reliably and securely every day.
What you will be doing
- Leading and growing a team of three network and security engineers, setting priorities and coaching them to do their best work.
- Shaping the network and security roadmap, from architecture decisions through to delivery, with a strong push toward Zero Trust and SASE.
- Running day-to-day operations with discipline: incidents, root cause, change control and continuous improvement.
- Owning resilience, including failover design, recovery planning and regular testing.
- Working side by side with the cyber security team on threat response, monitoring and closing out vulnerabilities.
- Managing technology vendors and telecommunications carriers, owning the platform budget and renewals, and planning hardware and platform lifecycles.
- Delivering uplift and modernisation projects and reporting progress and risk to technology leadership.
What you bring
- A decade or more across enterprise networking, infrastructure and security operations, with at least five years leading engineers.
- Breadth across the whole stack: campus and wide-area networks, wireless, load balancing, DNS, DHCP and IP address management.
- Hands-on credibility with Cisco routing, switching, Meraki and ISE, and with Palo Alto firewalls.
- Practical experience connecting on-premises environments to Azure and running SD-WAN.
- Real delivery experience with Zero Trust, SASE/SSE, ZTNA, CASB, DLP or network access control.
- A structured approach to operations using ITIL practices and a service management platform such as Jira Service Management.
- Clear, confident communication with technical and non-technical leaders alike.
Why you will enjoy it
- Genuine ownership: the network and its security are yours to shape, not a slice of someone else's platform.
- A meaningful modernisation agenda with leadership backing.
- A small team where your leadership is felt immediately.
- Hybrid working, typically three days in the office and two from home.
- A high-performing culture with a strong focus on learning and progression.
- Occasional after-hours work for critical incidents, maintenance windows and recovery testing is part of the role.
