Morgan McKinley is working with a Top 40 accounting practice based in Central London who are expanding their team with a Corporate Tax Director. The firm are a well established 24-partner practice with offices in London & the Home Counties.
The client base includes a significant number of owner-managed businesses, including partnerships, sole traders and private companies as well as some of the connected business owners/directors.
The main duties will involve:
- Delivery of tax advisory projects arising within the audit and business tax client portfolio together with work won through the candidates own business development activity.
- Managing the delivery of the compliance function on a designated allocation of clients, working to the local partners and working within the team to ensure consistent delivery throughout the annual cycles across the department and firm as a whole.
- The compliance function covers corporate and income tax returns (partnership and personal). Where ATED, NRLR, share scheme (ERS) returns and forms P11D are required, these are managed as a centralised process, however, a good working knowledge and client liaison is still expected.
- The diverse client base provides a challenging range of queries and opportunities. A good working knowledge of capital allowances, corporate debt rules, group related corporate tax matters, partnerships and tax accounting is required. Wider knowledge on areas in relation to personal taxation, employment taxes, share options and venture capital reliefs will be helpful in fulfilling the role. Although ad hoc advice on their portfolio will be required, the provision of high level technical support to the Partners in advising clients on tax planning opportunities is not a required part of the role but can be incorporated should this be a requirement of the successful candidate.
- Contribution to the general management of the corporate and business tax department (20+ across the 4 offices). Providing input at regular management meetings.
- Assistance with the training of tax staff either on the job based or by way of participation in regular technical updates.
- Appraisal of junior staff with responsibility for development and performance.
- Identifying new opportunities within the client portfolio and working with the wider team to deliver additional services where appropriate.
