The Environmental Officer is responsible for monitoring, managing, and improving environmental performance across the site. The role ensures compliance with environmental regulations, drives sustainability initiatives, and supports the implementation of environmental management systems to minimise environmental impact and promote responsible operations.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure full compliance with environmental legislation, regulations, and permits.
Monitor changes in environmental laws and update management on impacts to operations.
Prepare and submit regulatory reports, permits, and environmental documentation.
Conduct routine environmental inspections across site facilities.
Monitor key environmental parameters such as air quality, water quality, noise, emissions, and waste.
Maintain accurate records and support environmental data management systems.
Assist in the preparation, review, and implementation of EIAs and associated studies.
Support mitigation planning and follow-up monitoring activities.
Engage with external consultants where specialist assessments are required.
Oversee waste segregation, handling, and disposal in accordance with regulations.
Promote recycling, resource efficiency, and sustainable procurement.
Monitor hazardous materials and ensure correct environmental controls.
Respond to environmental incidents, spills, or non-compliances.
Conduct initial investigations and support root-cause analysis.
Recommend corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
Support the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
Assist in internal audits and prepare for external audits and certifications.
Identify opportunities for environmental improvement and support sustainability projects.
Deliver environmental awareness training and toolbox talks to staff and contractors.
Promote a positive culture of environmental stewardship across all levels.
Develop communication materials (posters, guides, bulletins) to raise environmental awareness.
Liaise with regulatory agencies, environmental consultants, and local authorities.
Support community outreach programs and sustainability reporting.
Assist in responding to environmental enquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability,or related discipline.
2-5 years' experience in environmental management, monitoring, or compliance.
