We are seeking a Building Services Project Engineer to join the client-side engineering team supporting the next phase of a major pharmaceutical facility expansion in South Dublin.
The role involves providing technical oversight and coordination across multiple building services systems- including chilled water, heat pumps, compressed air, refrigeration units, and associated distribution networks. The successful candidate will review and guide design progress, ensure compliance with specifications and standards, and support installation, commissioning, and handover activities as the project transitions through construction.
This is a hands-on, site-based role ideal for an engineer who thrives in complex, multidisciplinary project environments, particularly within regulated life sciences facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the client-side representative for all building services (MEP) systems throughout design, construction, and commissioning stages.
- Review detailed designs, drawings, and specifications for chilled water, heat pump, and compressed air systems, ensuring alignment with project standards and operational requirements.
- Liaise with the Building Management Systems (BMS) team and other disciplines to coordinate system interactions and integration.
- Oversee vendor and contractor technical submittals, verifying compliance with engineering and quality standards.
- Support the installation and field coordination of pumps, valves, refrigeration units, compressors, and distribution pipework.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), and commissioning activities.
- Ensure building services installations meet energy efficiency and sustainability objectives.
- Collaborate with electrical, automation, and mechanical teams during energisation and commissioning of systems.
- Provide input into schedule and cost management discussions, helping ensure delivery within project timelines.
- Maintain strong on-site engagement to monitor progress, resolve technical challenges, and uphold safety and compliance requirements.
Skills & Experience
- 8-10 years' experience in building services or MEP project engineering within pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated industries.
- Strong technical knowledge of chilled water, heat pump, air compressor, and water distribution systems, including associated controls and interfaces.
- Proven ability to review and coordinate multidisciplinary design packages rather than execute design directly.
- Familiarity with construction and commissioning phases of large-scale engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of relevant codes and standards (IS, EN, CIBSE, ASHRAE).
- Excellent documentation review, vendor coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communicator, able to collaborate across engineering, construction, and client teams.
Education & Certification
- Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Chartered Engineer or professional accreditation desirable but not essential.
