Process Safety Lead
We are seeking a Process Safety Lead . This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing systems and procedures to prevent major accidents or incidents. The successful candidate will also maintain and enhance existing systems to ensure a safe and fit-for-purpose process safety environment. Emergency response and business continuity are key areas of responsibility.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the introduction of new products to the site from a process safety perspective
- Conduct safe process design and review, including evaluation of safety systems such as emergency shutdown systems, pressure relief devices (PRDs), fire protection, and explosion prevention systems
- Develop and improve emergency response and preparedness capabilities
- Chair and document process and equipment HAZOP assessments and other process safety risk assessments, ensuring follow-up actions are completed
- Complete Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews (PSSR) in line with relevant technical standards
- Oversee process safety elements associated with plant operations and product campaigns, ensuring effective management of all processes
- Propose, develop, and implement process safety improvements and modifications to equipment and process areas
- Ensure compliance with applicable legal, site, corporate, and industry standards
- Engage with Management of Change (MOC) systems and approve changes from an EHS perspective
- Support site safety investigations and troubleshoot process safety issues
- Review and approve process safety documentation, including HAZOPs and capital project lifecycle requirements
- Deliver process safety training to colleagues as required
- Conduct safety audits and drive continuous improvement of site safety management systems
- Collaborate with global process safety subject matter experts and maintain KPIs and metrics
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a process-related industry (e.g., pharmaceutical, chemical, or petrochemical)
- Strong knowledge of process safety management (PSM), risk assessment methodologies (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA), and regulations related to explosive atmospheres
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards such as IEC 61508 / IEC 61511 (functional safety)
