Packaging Engineer
A global manufacturer in the pharmaceutical ingredients and specialty chemicals sector is seeking a Packaging Engineer to support packaging development, operational performance, and compliance at its Cork manufacturing facility.
The role focuses on designing and improving packaging systems for powder-based pharmaceutical ingredients, ensuring they meet regulatory, quality, and customer requirements while supporting efficient manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize primary and secondary packaging solutions for bulk powder products.
- Evaluate packaging materials such as industrial bags, liners, drums, fiber containers, and palletized systems.
- Support packaging trials, validation, and line testing.
- Provide technical support to packaging and filling operations, troubleshooting issues affecting performance or product quality.
- Ensure packaging systems comply with GMP and relevant regulatory standards.
- Support change control, deviation investigations, and CAPA activities.
- Maintain packaging specifications, documentation, and technical standards.
- Work with suppliers and procurement teams to qualify packaging materials.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance sustainability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar discipline.
- 3-7 years' experience in packaging engineering within pharmaceutical, food, chemical, or regulated manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of GMP and quality systems.
- Experience working with industrial packaging for powders or bulk materials.
- Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred
- Experience in pharmaceutical or excipient manufacturing.
- Familiarity with packaging validation and qualification processes.
- Exposure to automated packaging or filling systems.
- Continuous improvement or Lean/Six Sigma experience.
