A global data-centre cooling manufacturer is seeking a hands-on R&D Test Lead to support the development and validation of HVAC and cooling systems within a dedicated R&D laboratory. This role is responsible for building and running HVAC test rigs, executing defined test plans, and delivering high-quality, repeatable test data to engineering teams.
This is a senior technical, lab-based role combining HVAC systems expertise with test execution, instrumentation, and day-to-day lab coordination.
Test Setup & Execution
Build, configure, and commission HVAC test rigs in line with engineering test plans
Execute tests on DX systems, chilled water systems, and refrigerant-based cooling systems
Run tests safely and consistently, following defined procedures
Troubleshoot mechanical, refrigeration, and system-level issues during testing
Instrumentation & Measurement
Install and maintain instrumentation (temperature, pressure, flow, power, etc.)
Support calibration and basic verification of measurement equipment
Ensure data accuracy and repeatability aligned to test objectives
Lab Equipment & Infrastructure
Oversee day-to-day operation of lab equipment including chillers, pumps, boilers, generators, and control systems
Support commissioning of new lab equipment and capability upgrades
Coordinate external service providers for specialist maintenance or repairs
Data & Reporting
Ensure test data is complete, structured, and clearly documented
Manage data logging and handover of clean datasets and test summaries
Identify and flag anomalies or deviations during testing
People & Lab Coordination
Provide day-to-day supervision of technicians and contractors
Coordinate test schedules, priorities, and lab resources
Maintain good housekeeping and safe working practices
Strong hands-on experience with HVAC and refrigeration systems
Experience working in an R&D, test, or development lab environment
Practical experience with instrumentation and measurement systems
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical or thermal systems
Experience guiding technicians or contractors
Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Energy, Refrigeration, or a related discipline
