Employment Type: 6 month contract
Hours: 3 days per week
Health & Safety Consultant role will consist of:
● Responsibility - by accepting this role the consultant will assume
responsibility in bringing company and safety standards up to a level as
deemed reasonably practicable.
Main Duties:
● Safety Statement - ensuring the document is accurate, in date and readily
available for regulatory inspection.
o Communicate to staff & Mgt.
● Risk Assessments - as part of the safety statement, risk assessments should be completed to cover all appropriate H&S topics and communicated.
● H&S Committee - chair/lead/record this meeting for the company on a quarterly basis
- review membership and seek additional union appointed staff where required. Work with the H&S Representative.
● Fire Safety - ensure fire wardens are in place and trained to perform duties, ensure appropriate cover is in place on all work days - appoint a Chief Fire Warden.
o Develop and document an Emergency Response Plan
o Carry out, record and lead two fire drills a year
● First Aid - ensure first aiders are in place and trained to perform duties, ensure appropriate cover is in place on all work days - appoint a Chief First Aider
● Gap Analysis - perform a legal gap analysis to identify any gaps that exist in the management of H&S, record findings, allocate resolvers and track until closed.
● Safety Induction - ensure all team members have received safety induction training either through e-learning or in-person, develop an in-person safety induction module for the site and present to new team members.
● Incident Mgt - ensure there is an incident response protocol in place, ensure all incidents and near misses are recorded within an incident log, and ensure investigations are completed.
o Crisis Mgt - act as the point of contact with Operational Resilience and the Senior Incident Mgt Team
● Communication - ensure safety related communications happens on a planned basis.
● DSE Assessments - ensure that the DSE assessment programme is monitored and completion rates recorded, and
recommendations actioned from the reports.
● Inspections - carry out weekly inspections of the premises and record and track findings to closure.
● Safety Documentation - write and communicate a suite of Policies, SOPs and Management Plans.
● H&S Queries - act as the point of contact for all H&S queries, replying to team members within 3 working days.
● Contractor Management - ensure there is a plan in place that covers RAMS, Permission to Work and general contractor safety. Align to the duties of the Client under the Construction Regulations. Ensure normal preventative and
reactive maintenance is conducted in a safe manner.
● Security - plans are developed to ensure the safety of team members, assets and data.
● Monthly H&S Report - produce a monthly activity report outlining for example: Incidents/Near Misses, Training Completion Rates, Communications, Safety Documents completed, DSE rates, Inspections, and findings. Develop and report on KPIs.
