A fantastic opportunity with one of our key clients here at Morgan McKinley as they're looking for a proactive and experienced Assistant Operations Manager to join their team in Ringaskiddy, Cork.
The ideal candidate will have a background in an operations environment, with strong people and relationship management skills. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient running of the site, meeting customer requirements, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
The role will provide full support to the Operations Manager in all activities in running the site when necessary.
The hours of work will be 40 hours per week covering 7am to 5pm Mon-Fri with additional hours as required for ship discharge. There will be an on call element to this position.
Job Description:
Operational:
- Supervise and co-ordinate day to day operational activities.
- Ensure smooth operations and compliance with operational best practices.
- Support the management of operational staff, including training, scheduling and performance management.
- Ensuring Supervisory, Operational and 3rd Party cover for all vessel discharge operations.
- Ensuring that operations are performed in an effective and efficient manner.
- Liaise with suppliers and customers on a day to day basis to ensure smooth product flow in and out of facilities.
People Management:
- Help with the development of onsite personnel through training and support.
- Support with the development training practices to ensure that all members of the team are fully aware of current best practice, both internal and external to the company
- Promoting a positive working environment

- Work closely with Operations Manager to ensure appropriate systems are in place to manage performance, absence management, succession planning and recruitment and ensure a culture of excellence with ownership for delivery of objectives.
Technical:
- Help manage and maintain all company standards such as ISO9001, health and safety and environmental policies in conjunction with company central support teams.
Cost Control:
- Knowledge of cost base improvements. Help to manage the cost base and maximise opportunities for savings.
- Assist with the maintenance of port operational budgets within agreed limits ie direct and indirect labour, services, energy.
- Assist with the implementation of continuous improvement measures to optimise operational expenses.
Quality:
- Manage the company standards i.e. ISO9001 and ensure audit compliance.
- Be fully knowledgeable in these areas.
- Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels such as DAFM, Port of Cork, Stevedores, and Ship's Agents etc.
Team Management:
- Motivating a diverse team in the port in line with company standards.
- Plan and maintain high levels of communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Measurement:
- Annual KPIs will be agreed to ensure achievement of operational objectives including operational efficiency, health and safety and customer service
- Development of recovery plans as and when required to ensure achievement of all targets
- Analyse data to get to root cause of issues, develop and implement corrective action plans, monitor results
Organisation:
- Maintenance of administration and relevant reporting and planning systems
- Assist with the implementation of corporate policy and strategy.
- Help to ensure the company operates within relevant legislation.
- Provide assistance with the prompt and accurate completion of all administration and reporting tasks.
