Job Description

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the delivery of major change programmes, from initiation to closure, to meet defined business and technical objectives within agreed time, cost and qualit

Key Accountabilities

  • Establish and maintain an appropriate programme governance structure and effective communication processes
  • Follow the appropriate programme management framework is in place, completing all necessary reporting, control and escalation mechanisms
  • Manage programme issues, risks, dependencies and change control within agreed processes to ensure delivery of programme results within the agreed programme scope
  • Manage the programme budget, monitoring and reporting the costs against the delivered and realised benefits
  • Escalate issues as appropriate
  • Programme Initiation
  • Confirm the scope of a proposed programme, and clearly define the objectives of the programme
  • Ensure the required allocation of resources, skills and expertise is secured
  • Programme Execution and Delivery
  • Plan the programme and monitor its overall progress, resolving issues, initiating corrective action as appropriate and referring major issues upwards as necessary
  • Manage the knowledge and skills transfer within the programme
  • Manage the operational activities of internal teams, stakeholders, third parties, where appropriate i.e. providing guidance, checking invoices, internal cross charging and confirming / signing-off deliverables
  • Ensure programme delivery is coherent with the overall programme objectives and related business strategy
  • Ensure that all decisions are made with a customer focused lens
  • Ensure effective communication with all stakeholders to the programme
  • Manage both the dependencies and the interfaces between constituent projects and workstreams
  • Establish an effective relationship with relevant partners to coordinate delivery of the technical solution(s)
  • Manage specific programme deliverables that you are accountable for and ensure that all programme deliverables are to the appropriate levels of quality, on time and within budget, in accordance with the programme plan
  • Ensure that business readiness preparation is complete to ensure successful transitioning to live customer and colleague environment
  • Robust maintenance of all programme documentation/registers and management of suitable governance fora Risk and Compliance
  • Constant challenge of approach to ensure risk and controls of solutions are best in class
  • Transparent reporting on all risk, issues and mitigating actions
  • Maintain & monitor standards, controls, processes and solutions, to minimise business and all risks
  • Ensure full compliance with all Group, Legal and Regulatory requirements and standards
  • Management Support
  • Live and support Group culture, values and behaviours
  • Positive and proactive participation within the team and active collaboration with Group colleagues

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven track record of delivering business value from programmes as senior PM and through large scale change management
  • Experience of delivering technical and business projects and solutions in the financial services sector
  • Experience of delivering strategic customer change initiatives in retail banking sector
  • Experience in using agile methodologies
  • Ability to use Lean and Six Sigma tools to solve complex product problems, satisfy critical to quality customer requirements and eliminate waste.
  • Proven track record in delivering large scale efficiency programmes via process improvement/simplification

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Relevant third level qualification / certification
  • Ideally a formal Project Management qualification (Prince 2, PMP)
  • Experience (c.10+ years) of delivering change projects
  • Knowledge of financial services.
  • Knowledge of technology an advantage - think `technically literate`
