Job Description

A Dorset based family business requires an Accountant to assist with a wide variety of Accounting duties across multiple business entities due to business growth

A Dorset based family business requires an ( ideally practice trained) accountant to assist with a wide variety of Accounting duties across multiple business entities due to business growth.

With the option to work on a hybrid basis, you will be responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting through to management accounts/financial statements including audits where required for a variety of entities. Your portfolio will include a selection from the following: limited companies operating predominately in the financial consultancy, investment and property sectors, pension schemes, trusts, charities, sole traderships and reporting on UK and overseas personal and property expenditure.

You will be expected to:

- Ensure all finance functions and accounting records are maintained and management accounts prepared accurately and in a timely manner

- Undertake all prime entry bookkeeping tasks ensuring all income and costs have been appropriately approved, recorded accurately and VAT where applicable is correctly treated

- Administer all payments runs to the required frequency culminating in a weekly bank reconciliation where needed

- Prepare CIS and VAT returns where required ensuring these are submitted on time

- Maintain all fixed asset registers, ledgers and control accounts accurately

- Undertake credit control if required

- Produce statutory accounts with supporting year-end files where required for internal and external audit review

- Prepare regular reports not limited to actual v budget cost summaries and profit forecasts as an example

- Ensure all entities are compliant with relevant tax and company laws

- Undertake project work as required

- Ensure that your CPD record is well maintained if required

- Provide holiday and sickness cover for other team members when needed

- Report to the Team Leader or Deputy Head of Office as work requires

The ideal candidate will:

- Be AAT qualified, qualified by experience or a qualifying or recently qualified accountant with at least three years of relevant experience, ideally within practice or an audit environment

- Have experience of VAT, with knowledge of CIS being an advantage
