Position: Maintenance Fitter
Location: Fermoy, County Cork
Salary: €49,000-€54,000 per year
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Shift: 12-hour, 8-hour shifts, day and night shifts available
Position Overview:
A well-established sawmill plant in Fermoy, Co. Cork, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to ensure the efficient operation of its heavy industry equipment.
This role requires a hands-on professional with a strong background in maintenance within a heavy industry setting, ideally with a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and internal standards.
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults, performing routine maintenance to optimise equipment performance.
- Serving as a first responder for mechanical breakdowns on-site.
- Executing preventative and predictive maintenance tasks to support process improvements.
- Maintaining and repairing systems such as:
- Motors and gearboxes (up to 125kW)
- Chain drives and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
- Mobile plant equipment (log handlers, fork trucks)
- Boilers and drying kilns (low-pressure hot water systems)
- Manufacturing or modifying spare parts using milling, turning, and welding techniques.
- Documenting spare parts usage for timely inventory replacement and supporting sawmill operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A time-served mechanical fitter with qualifications in Mechanical Automation, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Toolmaking, or related fields.
- Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in a similar heavy industry role.
- Additional safety training (e.g., Safe Pass, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms) is an asset.
- Experience with construction plant or mining equipment will be considered advantageous.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment both indoors and outdoors, year-round.

Additional Requirements:
- Valid driving license preferred; forklift license an advantage.
- English language proficiency.
- Ability to commute to or relocate to Fermoy, Co. Cork.
