Based in Yokohama, this position plays an important role in translating automotive OEM requirements into comprehensive system and software design specifications. You will analyse complex customer requirements, develop specifications for GUI, HMI, and vehicle control modules, and collaborate with software development and evaluation teams throughout the engineering lifecycle.
The role combines automotive systems engineering, embedded software knowledge, specification development, and vehicle-level validation. You will also lead technical specification reviews with global cross-functional teams, making both Japanese and English essential for successful collaboration.
Beyond specification development, you will provide ongoing technical support to software and evaluation engineers and participate in system-level evaluation using test benches and actual vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and interpret technical specifications and requirements provided by automotive OEM customers.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical questions relating to customer specifications and system requirements.
- Conduct system requirements analysis and develop system designs for GUI, HMI, and control modules.
- Create detailed system and software design specifications in English.
- Translate customer requirements into clear, technically accurate specifications that can be used by development and evaluation teams.
- Lead specification review meetings and technical Q&A sessions with internal and global cross-functional engineering teams.
- Communicate technical requirements, design decisions, and specification updates effectively across Japanese and international stakeholders.
- Provide ongoing technical support to embedded software development and evaluation engineering teams.
- Collaborate with development and testing engineers to investigate issues and support effective problem resolution.
- Conduct system-level evaluations using test benches to verify functionality and system behaviour.
- Perform vehicle-level testing as required to evaluate system performance in real-world automotive environments.
- Support engineering activities across the development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and specification design through software development and system validation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in embedded software development or automotive systems engineering.
- Hands-on experience in system analysis, requirements analysis, or system design.
- Experience authoring technical system or software design specifications.
- Practical experience with system-level testing or evaluation.
- Ability to analyse automotive OEM specifications and translate customer requirements into engineering specifications.
- Experience supporting software development or evaluation teams in a technical engineering environment.
- Bachelor's degree.
Soft Skills:
- Strong technical communication skills with the ability to explain complex system and software requirements clearly.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills for leading specification reviews and technical discussions.

- Experience conducting technical negotiations with customers or engineering stakeholders.
- Experience with GUI or HMI system design.
- Proficiency with design software such as Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator.
- Hands-on experience with development or requirements-management tools such as JIRA.
