Join one of Japan's largest online marketplace platforms as a Backend Engineer, supporting mission-critical API authentication systems and merchant back-office tools used by millions of users. In this role, you will work on large-scale backend systems, helping maintain and improve the infrastructure that powers a major digital ecosystem in Japan.
You will collaborate with experienced engineers and internal stakeholders to design secure APIs, enhance authentication frameworks, and contribute to next-generation platform architecture in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute infrastructure migration projects for large-scale merchant systems.
- Maintain and enhance the current backend ecosystem by adding new features and improving existing functionality.
- Design and develop next-generation API gateways and authentication/authorization systems.
- Implement secure authentication protocols such as OAuth 2.0 to strengthen system reliability and security.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams and stakeholders to propose technical improvements and system enhancements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 3+ years of professional software development experience using Java for web applications.
- At least 1 year of experience working in Linux/UNIX environments.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with Oracle Database.
Soft Skills:
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively with engineering teams.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to solve technical challenges and propose improvements.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced development environment.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Business level
- English: Conversational level (TOEIC 600 equivalent or above)
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using Spring Framework and building Web APIs (REST or SOAP).
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Kubernetes, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience with Git version control and SQL performance tuning.
