Join a fast-growing international fintech and financial services organisation in Tokyo as an Information Security Lead, taking ownership of critical information security governance, cybersecurity risk management, and data protection initiatives.
As the organisation continues to expand in Japan, cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important to its long-term technology and business strategy. You will develop and strengthen information security policies, controls, governance frameworks, and data protection practices, working closely with business and technology stakeholders across Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Information Security, Cybersecurity Governance, or IT Risk professional to influence the organisation's security strategy while supporting security certifications, regulatory compliance, assessments, and the continued development of a robust security roadmap for Japan.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain information security policies, standards, procedures, and governance frameworks across the organisation.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to identify cybersecurity risks and implement appropriate security controls.
- Act as an internal security advisor, providing practical guidance on information security, cybersecurity, and data protection requirements.
- Support security assessments, audits, certifications, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Develop and operate security and data protection controls to strengthen the organisation's overall security posture.
- Advise stakeholders on privacy, personal information protection, data protection, and related regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with internal teams and external partners to strengthen security practices across the organisation.
- Contribute to the continued development of the organisation's information security and cybersecurity roadmap as the business expands in Japan.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in information security, cybersecurity governance, IT controls, security consulting, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, cloud technologies, and security solutions.
- Experience with recognised information security frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, ISO 27001/ISMS, SOC, PCI DSS, FISC, or ISMAP.
- Experience developing and maintaining security policies, standards, procedures, governance processes, or internal controls.
Soft Skills:
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across business and technology functions.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities when assessing cybersecurity risks and developing practical solutions.
- High level of ownership and autonomy, with the ability to independently drive information security initiatives.
- Ability to translate complex security and regulatory requirements into practical solutions for business stakeholders.
- Strong cross-functional and cross-cultural communication skills for working with stakeholders across Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Native level
- English: Intermediate to Business level
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience within financial services, fintech, technology, or another regulated industry.
- Relevant information security certifications such as CISSP, CISA, or CISM.
- Practical knowledge of security and compliance frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, ISO 27001/ISMS, SOC, PCI DSS, FISC, or ISMAP.
- Experience supporting security assessments, audits, certifications, or compliance initiatives.
- Experience advising stakeholders on privacy, personal information protection, and data protection requirements.
