About the job

A leading global e-commerce organization is seeking an experienced HR Business Partner (HRBP) to support business leaders and drive people strategy across the Japan organization.

This role offers a unique opportunity to combine HR Business Partnering, Organizational Design, Talent Management, Employee Relations, Workforce Planning, and Leadership Coaching within a highly collaborative and people-focused environment. Acting as a trusted advisor to business leaders, you will play a key role in shaping organizational effectiveness, employee engagement, and talent development initiatives.

This position is ideal for HR professionals who enjoy balancing strategic HR initiatives with hands-on business partnership in a fast-paced international environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary HR contact for a designated business unit or local site.
  • Partner with managers and business leaders to align people strategies with business objectives.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to leaders on performance management, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Lead and support talent lifecycle processes including performance reviews, succession planning, and talent development.
  • Drive organizational design and workforce planning initiatives.
  • Support employee relations matters and collaborate with corporate HR teams when escalation is required.
  • Assist managers with recruitment strategies, internal mobility, and workforce planning decisions.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a positive employee experience.
  • Facilitate employee engagement initiatives and workplace culture programs.
  • Partner with HR Centers of Excellence including Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, and Total Rewards.
  • Support employee forums, business improvement groups, and other people-focused initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Human Resources, Organizational Effectiveness, or related fields.
  • Strong HR Generalist or HR Business Partner experience.
  • Experience advising and influencing stakeholders up to Director level.
  • Experience supporting talent management, organizational design, and employee relations initiatives.
  • Experience operating within a complex or matrixed organization.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
Soft Skills:
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to establish credibility and influence senior leaders.
  • Passion for employee experience, inclusion, wellbeing, and workplace culture.
  • Strong communication and coaching abilities.
  • Ability to balance local business needs with broader organizational priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a fast-changing business environment.
Language Requirements:
  • Japanese: Business fluent.
  • English: Business fluent.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience partnering with specialized HR functions such as Total Rewards or Talent Acquisition.
  • Experience within retail, e-commerce, or high-volume hiring environments.
  • Knowledge of organizational design and workforce planning methodologies.
  • Experience supporting hybrid or remote workforce engagement initiatives.
  • Exposure to large-scale recruitment or seasonal workforce planning.
