A leading global technology company is seeking a Senior Software QA Lead to drive quality assurance for large-scale BSS and telecommunications platforms in Tokyo. This Haken contract opportunity is open to candidates currently residing in Japan.
You will lead the QA team with responsibility for QA strategy, test planning, project scheduling, quality standards, and progress management across the software development lifecycle. The role also focuses on analyzing QA metrics and costs, improving team performance, and driving continuous software quality improvements.
This is an opportunity for an experienced QA professional to combine software quality assurance, QA leadership, test management, and project management while working on high-scale telecommunications systems used by millions of users.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the QA team and take ownership of overall software quality assurance strategy.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive test strategies and test plans.
- Manage QA project schedules, milestones, priorities, and overall progress.
- Monitor QA activities throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Define, analyze, and track QA operational metrics to improve project performance.
- Analyze QA cost structures and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and team value.
- Ensure QA deliverables meet established quality standards, acceptance criteria, and industry best practices.
- Identify project and quality risks and develop proactive mitigation and improvement measures.
- Maintain clear project visibility through regular communication with key stakeholders.
- Communicate project status, task risks, quality issues, and recommended solutions to leadership.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across QA processes and team operations.
- Collaborate with engineering and other cross-functional stakeholders to improve software quality.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 3+ years of quality management experience across the full software development lifecycle.
- 1+ year of project management experience, preferably as a QA Lead within an IT or software environment.
- Proven experience developing robust test strategies and comprehensive test plans.
- Experience managing QA schedules, progress, quality standards, and project risks.
- Demonstrated experience implementing team or QA process improvement initiatives.
Soft Skills:
- Strong cross-functional communication skills with the ability to align teams and stakeholders on QA strategy.
- Strong project risk management and stakeholder coordination capabilities.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify root causes and implement proactive solutions.
- Strong leadership skills with accountability for team performance and quality outcomes.
- Ability to communicate project status, risks, and improvement recommendations clearly to leadership.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Basic
- English: Intermediate-Business
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Practical experience with Agile software development methodologies and iterative release cycles.
- Experience managing multiple external vendors simultaneously.
- Ability to resolve operational issues and dependencies across multiple vendors.
- ISTQB Foundation Level (FL) certification.
- Experience working with BSS, telecommunications, or other large-scale technology platforms.
- Experience using QA metrics and performance data to drive continuous improvement.
