Based in Tokyo, you will lead a small operations team while overseeing Japanese equity settlement, clearing, custody, reconciliations and post-trade operations. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the daily securities operations team, establishing priorities, coordinating coverage and ensuring accurate and timely completion of operational activities.
- Oversee Japanese equity settlement, clearing, custody, reconciliations and post-trade processing across the operations function.
- Manage settlement exceptions, failed trades, cash-related issues and other operational matters, ensuring timely investigation and resolution.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, custodians, brokers and other external partners to resolve operational issues and improve service quality.
- Maintain robust operational controls, procedures and documentation to support effective risk management and regulatory compliance.
- Support internal and external audits and respond to relevant regulatory and operational requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and operational efficiency while maintaining high standards of accuracy and risk management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 7+ years of relevant experience in securities operations, settlement or financial services back-office functions.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of securities settlement, clearing, custody, reconciliations and post-trade operations.
- Experience managing settlement exceptions, failed trades, cash issues and other operational risks.
- Experience maintaining operational controls, procedures and documentation within a regulated financial services environment.
- Experience collaborating with internal teams and external financial market participants.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent higher education.
Soft Skills:
- Strong people leadership skills with the ability to manage priorities and support a small operations team.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for resolving complex settlement and operational issues.

Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Fluent.

- Strong knowledge of Japanese securities market infrastructure and relevant market practices.
- Experience working with custodians, brokers, clearing organisations or other market infrastructure providers.
- Experience within investment banking, securities firms or international financial institutions.
- Previous experience leading or supervising an operations or settlement team.
- Knowledge of regulatory, audit and operational control requirements within the Japanese financial services market.
