Join a growing renewable energy company as a Project Development Director, leading the development of land-based renewable energy projects across East Japan.
Based in Tokyo, you will oversee projects from initial land identification and acquisition through permitting, stakeholder negotiations, regulatory approvals, and progression to Ready-to-Build (RTB) status. You will also build and manage a strong pipeline of new renewable energy opportunities aligned with the company's development strategy in Japan.
This leadership position combines renewable energy project development, land acquisition, permitting, stakeholder management, and business development. You will manage the land acquisition team while developing relationships with landowners, local authorities, community associations, real estate agents, brokers, and other business partners.

Key Responsibilities
- Identify and secure new renewable energy projects aligned with the company's development objectives in Japan.
- Build and manage a strong portfolio and pipeline of land-based renewable energy projects.
- Manage contracts, agreements, and documentation related to land acquisition.
- Conduct preliminary project due diligence covering land ownership, topography, permitting requirements, and local conditions.
- Lead and supervise the land acquisition team, providing clear direction and support to team members.
- Manage assigned development projects and secure the permits and approvals required to achieve Ready-to-Build status.
- Lead negotiations with local authorities, community associations, landowners, and other stakeholders to secure project agreements and approvals.
- Develop and maintain relationships with real estate agents, brokers, landowners, and other business partners.
- Identify new business and project development opportunities to support the company's continued growth in Japan.
- Prepare and maintain accurate project reports, land information, development records, and internal documentation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Professional experience working for a solar power company is required.
- Experience supporting or managing renewable energy project development activities.
- Practical understanding of the development process for land-based renewable energy projects in Japan.
- Experience coordinating multiple internal and external stakeholders throughout project development.
- Valid driver's license.
- Bachelor's degree.
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, develop, and provide direction to a land acquisition team.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for working with landowners, local authorities, communities, and business partners.
- Ability to establish and maintain long-term relationships with external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills for managing multiple development projects and large volumes of project information.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders throughout the renewable energy development lifecycle.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Native level.
- English: Business level.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in land acquisition for utility-scale solar or other renewable energy projects.
- Experience progressing renewable energy projects through to Ready-to-Build status.
- Knowledge and experience of renewable energy permitting and regulatory processes in Japan.
- Established relationships with real estate agents, brokers, landowners, or local stakeholders across East Japan.
- Experience conducting preliminary project and land due diligence.
