Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business and R&D teams to identify inventions and assess patentability.
- Conduct clearance searches, analyze infringement risks, and develop avoidance strategies.
- Manage patent prosecution, including drafting, responding to office actions, and divisional filings.
- Audit existing patents and assess compliance with internal and third-party rights.
- Proactively support new business launches and IP risk management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Hands-on experience in software patent-related work (claim drafting, examinations, substantive analysis).
- Strong ability to determine technical scope and patentability.
Mindset:
- Proactive, self-driven, and adaptable to dynamic business environments.
Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail; collaborative communicator across legal and technical teams.
Language Requirements
- Japanese: Fluent (for domestic filings and communication).
- English: Fluent (for international filings, drafting, and collaboration).
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience preparing invention disclosures and handling patent work in English.
- Knowledge of OSS license compliance.
- Familiarity with AI tools for patent-related tasks.
