Join an international financial services and securities brokerage firm as a Japan Financial Controller, taking ownership of local finance operations while leading a finance team in Tokyo.
This high-visibility position covers financial accounting, regulatory reporting, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, tax, audit, and financial controls. You will work closely with stakeholders across Japan and the wider APAC region while ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with Japanese statutory and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely accounting records.
- Manage general accounting activities, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cost accounting.
- Prepare management accounts, financial reports, and regulatory submissions in accordance with Japanese statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and support the local finance team, providing day-to-day management, professional guidance, and development.
- Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, tax, audit, and financial analysis activities with internal and external stakeholders.
- Partner with regional and international teams on finance-related initiatives and reporting requirements.
- Improve finance processes and strengthen internal controls while supporting automation, system implementation, and business projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 7-15 years of accounting and finance experience, ideally within financial services or a professional services environment.
- Strong experience across financial accounting, closing, management reporting, and statutory reporting.
- Practical knowledge of Japanese regulatory reporting, tax requirements, and statutory accounts.
- Experience coordinating budgeting, forecasting, tax, audit, and financial analysis activities.
- Experience leading or supporting finance operations in a structured corporate environment.
Soft Skills:
- Proven leadership and people management experience, with the ability to guide and develop a local finance team.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and regions.
- Structured and detail-oriented approach to financial reporting, controls, and compliance.
- Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to finance transformation initiatives.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Professional proficiency, including the ability to handle Japanese regulatory reporting, tax requirements, and statutory accounts.
- English: Business level for communication with regional and international stakeholders.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using Oracle Financials or similar accounting and finance systems.
- Experience working with regional or international finance teams, particularly across APAC.
- Accounting and finance experience within securities, investment banking, brokerage, or broader financial services.
- Experience supporting finance process automation, accounting system implementation, or transformation projects.
