A leading global investment bank is seeking a Head of LBO to lead leveraged buyout origination and execution in Japan. This senior front-office role focuses on building and expanding the bank's acquisition finance franchise, strengthening sponsor relationships, and delivering complex leveraged finance solutions. You will play a critical role in shaping the bank's LBO strategy in Japan while leading a high-performing local team within a global platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate and lead leveraged buyout and leveraged M&A transactions in the Japanese market
- Structure and execute acquisition financing solutions across multiple debt products
- Build and maintain strong relationships with financial sponsors, private equity firms, and key stakeholders
- Oversee deal execution from origination through closing, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery
- Lead, mentor, and develop the local leveraged finance team
- Define and execute the LBO growth strategy for Japan
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory, credit, and risk management requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Extensive experience in leveraged finance, acquisition finance, private equity, or investment banking
- Proven track record leading complex leveraged transactions in Japan
- Strong expertise in financial modelling, valuation, and debt structuring
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing teams
- Deep understanding of the Japanese M&A market and regulatory environment
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities
- Excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills
- Strategic mindset combined with a hands-on, execution-focused approach
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Native level
- English: Intermediate to Business level
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Existing senior relationships with financial sponsors and advisory firms in Japan
- Experience working within international banking platforms and global deal teams
- MBA or advanced qualification in finance or a related discipline
