Join a leading global bank in Tokyo as Director & Team Lead - Energy Finance, taking a senior leadership role in originating and executing complex financing transactions across Japan's energy, infrastructure, renewable energy, and energy transition sectors.
You will develop strategic relationships with major Japanese corporates, trading houses, sponsors, developers, utilities, and institutional investors while leading transactions across project finance, infrastructure finance, structured finance, and acquisition finance.
This Director-level position combines business origination, transaction execution, team leadership, and senior client coverage. Working with Syndications, Global Markets, DCM, M&A, Credit, and international teams, you will deliver integrated financing solutions and help drive the continued growth of the bank's Energy & Infrastructure Finance franchise in Japan.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate and lead Energy and Infrastructure Finance transactions in Japan, developing opportunities with major corporates, sponsors, developers, utilities, and investors.
- Build and deepen senior client relationships while identifying new opportunities across renewable energy, energy transition, power, and infrastructure.
- Structure and execute complex transactions across project finance, structured finance, acquisition finance, and other debt financing solutions.
- Lead transaction assessment, financial modelling, credit analysis, due diligence, structuring, and negotiation of key commercial terms.
- Manage transactions from origination through internal credit approval, documentation, syndication, and financial close.
- Partner with Syndications, Global Markets, DCM, M&A, Credit, and other product teams to deliver integrated financing and advisory solutions.
- Collaborate with regional and global teams to originate and execute cross-border transactions involving Japanese corporates, sponsors, and investors.
- Monitor Japanese Energy and Infrastructure market developments, regulatory changes, and emerging investment themes to identify new business opportunities.
- Provide leadership across complex transactions and coordinate effectively among clients, product specialists, credit teams, and international stakeholders.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 10+ years of relevant experience in Energy Finance, Project Finance, Infrastructure Finance, Structured Finance, or a related Corporate & Investment Banking function.
- Strong track record of originating, structuring, and executing complex financing transactions within the Energy and Infrastructure sectors.
- Established experience managing senior relationships with Japanese corporates, sponsors, developers, utilities, or financial investors.
- Strong knowledge of project finance structures, financial modelling, credit analysis, due diligence, and transaction documentation.
- Proven experience leading transactions from initial origination and structuring through credit approval, documentation, syndication, and financial close.
- Strong understanding of the Japan Energy and Infrastructure market, including key industry trends and relevant regulatory developments.
- Experience coordinating with multiple banking functions to execute sophisticated financing transactions.

- Excellent senior client relationship management skills with the credibility to engage corporate executives, sponsors, investors, and other senior stakeholders.

- Japanese: Native-level proficiency required for senior client relationship management and business origination in Japan.
- English: Strong business-level proficiency required for cross-border transactions and collaboration with regional and global teams.

- Experience across renewable energy, power, energy transition, digital infrastructure, or other emerging infrastructure sectors.
- Established relationships with leading Japanese corporates, trading houses, utilities, sponsors, developers, or institutional investors.
- Experience delivering broader solutions across capital markets, hedging, advisory, syndication, or structured finance.
- Experience executing cross-border Energy and Infrastructure transactions involving Japanese clients or investors.
- Strong understanding of evolving investment opportunities associated with Japan's energy transition.
- Experience collaborating across Corporate & Investment Banking products to deliver integrated client solutions.
