Join a growing renewable energy company as a Chief Electrical Engineer, taking a key technical role in utility coordination, electrical engineering, and grid interconnection for utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Japan.
Based in Tokyo, you will support projects throughout the lifecycle, from early-stage development and utility applications through construction, commissioning, energization, grid connection, and Commercial Operation Date (COD).
As a primary technical representative, you will coordinate directly with Japanese electric utility companies on High Voltage (HV) and Special High Voltage (SHV) grid interconnection, utility applications, commissioning schedules, and energization. You will also support regulatory processes involving FIT/FIP, METI, and OCCTO.
This position requires a First-Class Chief Electrical Engineer (第一種電気主任技術者) qualification and offers the opportunity to apply your expertise to complex large-scale renewable energy infrastructure projects across Japan.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a primary technical representative when coordinating with Japanese electric utility companies.
- Lead technical discussions covering utility applications, commissioning schedules, energization, and grid interconnection.
- Support HV and SHV utility application and interconnection procedures throughout project development and construction.
- Support FIT/FIP, METI, OCCTO, and other applicable regulatory application processes.
- Review electrical system designs to ensure compliance with Japanese regulations, utility requirements, and applicable international standards.
- Review technical specifications for transformers, PCS and inverters, switchgear, protection systems, and other major electrical equipment.
- Coordinate technical activities with EPC contractors, consultants, utilities, and internal project teams.
- Support project execution, commissioning, energization, and grid connection activities through Commercial Operation Date.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Technical Department.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- First-Class Chief Electrical Engineer (第一種電気主任技術者) qualification is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in utility-scale Solar PV and/or grid projects.
- Experience managing utility application procedures for HV and/or SHV renewable energy projects.
- Strong knowledge of Japanese electrical regulations and utility interconnection requirements.
- Experience coordinating technical matters directly with electric utility companies.
- Experience supporting electrical engineering and grid interconnection activities for large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
Soft Skills:
- Strong communication skills for managing technical discussions with electric utility companies and project stakeholders.
- Strong technical problem-solving capabilities for addressing electrical engineering and grid interconnection issues.
- Ability to independently manage utility coordination and technical discussions.
- Strong coordination skills for working with EPC contractors, consultants, utilities, and internal project teams.
- High attention to regulatory compliance, technical requirements, engineering quality, and project schedules.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Fluent level.
- English: Basic level.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience coordinating grid interconnection schedules with Japanese electric utility companies.
- Experience with METI, OCCTO, and FIT/FIP application procedures.
- Knowledge of transformer energization and commissioning requirements.
- Knowledge of reactive power compensation and Japanese grid code requirements.
- Experience supporting renewable energy projects through Commercial Operation Date.
- English communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.
